Flowers

Flower Portraits

Flowers have an essence that fills our senses.  They are imbued with both spiritual and symbolic meaning.  This is the essence I attempt to capture in my painting.

Both the scientist and gardener in me values the infinite complexity, beauty and drama of the natural world, so my flower portraits are magnifications of real life, meant to be studies of what is often not seen or given attention, in the hope that the viewer will look at all flowers in a different way.  All of my flower subjects are from my own garden.

Since the 17th century, flowers have been used to convey secret messages, even in paintings. In addition to the symbolism ascribed to them since ancient times, I believe that flowers also have their own personality.

Read about their meanings in the Shop descriptions of each flower.
